Introduction to Mercer Select

Mercer Select is the premier membership service for Mercer clients and other contacts interested in news and analysis on a broad spectrum of human resource (HR) issues in the United States. The service and its content are designed to give you the information you need to do your job.

What’s on Mercer Select

Organized by topic and publication, Mercer Select is designed with simplicity and consistency in mind. Whether you have time only to scan the headlines or you need to do indepth research, Mercer Select has the right information for you.

Mercer Select offers topic pages on Health & Benefits (H&B), including state H&B coverage; Human Capital, including Executive Remuneration (Exec Rem), HR Effectiveness, and Talent; Nonqualified Deferred Compensation (NQDC); Retiree Medical; Retirement; and Social Security and Medicare. Depending on your membership status, topic pages available from the left navigation column include the following features:

  • Top Stories: Handpicked articles spotlight breaking developments and the most important articles from Washington and across the nation.
  • Today’s Headlines: News briefs give full-text access to the day’s top HR stories from the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, BusinessWeek, and US News & World Report, to name a few.
  • From Mercer: This collection presents a wide range of Mercer-prepared publications, including:

-     Select News summaries covering the latest legal and marketplace developments;  

-     GRIST Alerts, Reports and InDepths on major legislative, regulatory, and judicial issues;

-     Updates and Perspectives featuring Mercer expert points of view; and

-     Weekly Highlights summarizing the prior week's notable legislative, regulatory, and legal developments.

  • Library: This content comes from numerous periodicals and online publishers, including Health Affairs, Journal of Financial Planning, Benefits Law Journal, Kaiser Family Foundation, and Ivey Business Journal, among others.

Select membership

Mercer Select offers the following membership options:

  • Basic membership covering a full array of HR topics
  • Premium membership for specialists focusing on Health & Benefits (H&B), Executive Remuneration (Exec Rem), Human Capital (including Exec Rem), or Retirement
  • Membership focused on issues relating to Social Security and Medicare
  • Mercer Select HRKnowHow membership, which includes a sampling of Select content with a special emphasis on health and benefits

Below is an overview of what’s inside each membership offering.

Basic members have access to Mercer articles (including most GRIST articles), about 20 full-text Today’s Headlines a day, and a wide spectrum of Library resources. In addition, basic members can sign up for e-mail delivery of GRIST, Today’s Headlines, and Weekly Highlights, and can request customized research assistance from Mercer’s US IRC (special hourly rate charges will apply). Finally, basic members can also enjoy a variety of perspectives on hot HR issues in the HRoom blog.

Premium members have access to all of the content available to basic members, plus additional information and features – including the most high-value analyses and insights from Mercer. The four premium membership offerings are specifically designed for specialists focused on particular HR topic areas. You must be a basic member to be eligible for any of the premium membership options. Here is a sampling of some of the information and features available to premium members:

  • H&B, Exec Rem, Human Capital, and Retirement premium members can take advantage of additional, high-value articles in the From Mercer (including selected GRIST articles), Today’s Headlines, and Library sections. Premium content is denoted as (Premium).
  • H&B premium members can utilize H&B ComplianceConnection, which provides primer materials on major H&B issues, organized by employee events (e.g., hiring, marriage, termination) and topics. H&B ComplianceConnection assists with the administration of health care and group benefit plans and includes sample notices and forms, compliance calendars, and a glossary of important terms.
  • Exec Rem premium members can read and participate in the ExecSuite blog on executive remuneration.
  • Human Capital premium members have access to a library of Global Insights publications (previously only sold individually) that provide detailed discussions on a diverse collection of global HR, compensation, and talent issues, and Human Capital Surveys.

Social Security and Medicare members have access to information and features designed for practitioners who focus on issues relating to the Social Security and Medicare programs. Social Security and Medicare members have access to the Social Security and Medicare News quarterly newsletter; an annual Online Guide to Social Security and Medicare; the Social Security Benefits Calculator for retirement, survivors, and disability benefits; as well as Today’s Headlines, GRIST, Select News, and Library items third parties.

Mercer Select HRKnowHow members have access to a sampling of Mercer Select health-and-benefits-focused content, including four to five full-text Today’s Headlines each day, Mercer Alerts, Updates and Perspectives, publicly available survey reports and third-party research papers, and Weekly Highlights. This membership also includes access to ComplianceLink, which provides information on health care and group benefit plan administration through topic pages, notices and forms, and compliance calendars.
